Oxford Landing Vineyard was established in 1958 on the banks of the Murray River in South Australia. With an innovative and colourful history expanding 50 years, Oxford Landing has many hallmarks, including vast vineyard sustainability practices, down-to-earth individuals unashamedly passionate about this special place, and a collection of wines that capture and retain the natural, vibrant flavours and splendour of the Oxford Landing vineyard.

Winemaking/Viticulture

The Oxford Landing Merlot vines have been strategically planted on well drained sites. Careful irrigation control and management of the vineyard promotes well balanced vine canopies, thereby maximising fruit quality. An exceptionally cool vintage with steady rain throughout the growing and ripening season meant that the vines developed robust canopies. Mild weather throughout December-March provided optimal ripening conditions allowing the fruit to ripen gradually to produce varietal Merlot flavours. Fermentation was carried out in a combination of static and rotary fermenters under warm temperature conditions for a period of six days. This creates a good balance between extracting the appropriate tannin for wine structure and retaining fruit drive and aromatics in the final blend. The wines were stored at 6°C post fermentation to retain natural colour and aromatics of the variety.

Winemakers Comments

Crimson with brilliant purple hues, the Oxford Landing Estates Merlot displays aromas of raspberry and red jubes with hints of fruit pastille and spice. Soft, velvety tannins are a feature of the palate, which starts with generous plums and raspberries and finishes with red berry fruit and spice flavours. The succulent fruit flavours linger long after the wine has been consumed.
