Castilla La Mancha

The vast, high and dry plains of Castilla la Mancha comprise over 50% of Spain’s vineyards. The ancient soils and high altitude ensures the richly flavoured fruit maintains structure and tannin. Vineyards planted on the slopes of mountain ranges in the north and north east adds elegance to the wines.

Winemaking

Vineyard management is crucial to ensure balanced fruit without  excessive alcohol or sunburn. A fast and precise vinification is undertaken with fruit hand harvested in the early morning and  then fermented in stainless steel with temperature control preventing malo-lactic fermentation. The wine is then aged on lees for three months in tank.

2011 Vintage

2011 was extremely dry and relatively warm throughout Spain. Good water reserves and sub-soil moisture meant that the vines weathered the conditions well although relieving September rains were most welcome. The rain slowed down an extremely early vintage, allowing the grapes to reach good flavour maturity. The 2011 vintage will be categorised by low yields and intense flavours.

Tasting Notes

Pale and fresh with a delicate green tint. The aromas are restrained but enticing with subtle stone fruit and citrus. The palate follows the theme with originally delicate mineral and stone flavours building to a textural mid palate that is mouth coating and persistent. Fine natural acidity provides length and finesse.
